There's something special happening at lunchtime these days at Chikumbuso.
Not long ago, the vegetables on our students' plates came from the market. Today, more and more of them are coming from our own farm.
Rows of spinach, cabbage, tomatoes, onions, and other vegetables are growing at the Buehler Farm, built with help from Southern Connecticut Rotary clubs. Every harvest means fresher meals, healthier children, and one more step toward a future where Chikumbuso can provide more of its own food.
For many of our students, the breakfast and lunch they receive at school are the most nutritious meals of their day. A healthy meal doesn't just fill an empty stomach—it helps children concentrate, participate in class, and have the energy to learn and play.
The farm is becoming an extension of our classrooms. Students are learning that food doesn't simply appear on a plate; it begins with healthy soil, careful planning, hard work, and hope. As our farm continues to grow, so does our vision of creating a more sustainable future for the entire Chikumbuso community.
Every seed planted, every vegetable harvested, and every healthy lunch served is possible because of friends like you.
Thank you for helping us nourish minds, bodies, and futures—one meal at a time.
