This is the time for many students in the US to gather their school supplies in new backpacks as they start their school year. They might be sad to see the summer end, but happy to see friends and get back into the school year rhythm. The Zambian school calendar runs from January through December, taking breaks during April, August, and December.
Many of our children come from homes where the lunch they eat at Chikumbuso may be the only one they eat in a day. As the effect of the drought continues to have a ripple effect on the price of food, many families are struggling more than ever to feed their children.
Thanks to our generous donors, we decided to hold a day camp at Chikumbuso during August break. Our Gap Year students, college students, and safe haven girls all took time to give back to Chikumbuso by volunteering to cook, entertain, and tutor younger students that came to enjoy a meal and the love they receive at Chikumbuso.
Classroom sponsorship at Chikumbuso means so much more than new pencils, back packs, and all the day to day supplies every student around the world needs. It means survival for many, and hope for all our students.
Thank you for giving our students hope and more!
Fondly,
Linda and Lisa
