The Chikumbuso teachers are back from their holiday break, and they're wasting no time getting their classrooms ready for their eager new students. Walls are being adorned with colorful learning materials, desks are being arranged in neat rows, and lesson plans are being meticulously crafted. Meanwhile, ten Grade 8 students who received uniforms and support from Chikumbuso last year are busy repainting the community center, their faces flushed with pride as they give back to the place that has given them so much.
For many of these students, the school day's siren call isn't just the ringing of the bell; it's the promise of a nutritious lunch. With delayed rains causing food shortages throughout Lusaka, the hearty meals served at Chikumbuso are a lifeline for students who often have little to eat at home. Teachers see a remarkable difference in their students' concentration and focus after they've had a proper meal, and they celebrate the knowledge that these nourished minds and bodies are now primed to learn and grow.
Help us nurture a generation of healthy community-focused citizens.
