Every year when September rolls around our seventh grade classroom begins to wiggle and stir. This seventh grade year is a big one for our students because they have their first official exams which will determine whether or not they are able to go on to eighth grade. I know that these feelings are also mixed with hesitancy because they will have to leave the school that has harbored them, fed them, and educated them to this point. Our students have been held over the years and kept safe by an amazing staff of teachers, administrators, widows, and single moms. Each and every student has had one or many confidants in their lives. Their classroom sizes will go from around 30 students to sometimes 80+.... There is a lot to wonder about. You can be sure our gates will always remain open to these students for lunches, help with work, and medical issues.
It is bitter sweet for all of us but we wish them their best and ask them to go and shine, remembering where they came from.
