Once upon a time we started a Library and Classroom Project....this is not a fairytale, it is a reality! When we began this project we set a goal of $12,500.00 to help with the generous donations we had already recieved to build the necessary building which would house our library and two additional classrooms. Today, we are only $305.00 from reaching that projected goal.
The classrooms and the library are fully functional, as a matter of fact the library is doing double duty as it is currently also being used as a classroom due to our continued growth. This month, we were fortunate enough to have volunteers provided by the Red Cross who took days of dedicated effort to set up the library with the Dewey Decimal System! Now, we are a fully functional library. We have programed all our books into our computer system and currently we have almost 1400 titles on our shelves.
With the start of the new school year in September, we will staff the library with a teacher who will double as a librarian. Our students will be issued student ID's, which will double as their library card, so they can check out books as resouces and for fun and pleasure. Our new friends, the volunteers who have helped so much this month, have also promised to go home and start a book drive to expand our selection of books.
Without people like you and the volunteers who have helped so much, Ambergris Caye Elementary School would not exist. We are a reflection of the generousity in people's hearts. We thank you all so much for your donations and we hope you continue to support our efforts. With our new projects like "Send a Child to School" you can become more involved and even get to know the students you support. Please check out our Global Giving page and set something up today to make a better future for a child who would otherwise not have the option of a quality education.
Project reports on GlobalGiving are posted directly to globalgiving.org by Project Leaders as they are completed, generally every 3-4 months. To protect the integrity of these documents, GlobalGiving does not alter them; therefore you may find some language or formatting issues.
