After February 2022 Upsala-Circus has turned a new page for our work.
The first weeks after February 24 we were trying to find answers to the impossible questions how can we continue and how can we follow our mission of the circus, opened to life, when the war has stared. .
Upsala-Circus runs projects for 110 children and young people from at risk groups: children with disabilities, children and teenagers from disadvanateges familiris. migrant families, reform schools etc.
For many of them the space of Upsala-Circys has remained the only safe space where they can be themselves, freely express themselves and ask questions. And now more than ever we have reponsibility to remain this safe space for them.
The main result and news of out project from the last months is that we have a premier!
Children and teenagers that have been training with Upsala-Circus for the last three years have presented their first circus performance. It is called “45 minutes” - it is the time durataion of the school lesson. And it is the performance about the school system and what children and young people would like to change within it, what worries them and exictes them about the school, especially today.
What is unique about this performance is that the idea belongs to children and teenagers. A year ago they came to the trainers and our Art Director and told them that they want to tkal about modern school through the language and instruments of contemporary circus.
And the result is breathtaking! For 45 minutes young people freely express themselves and via circus tell their stroies. And when you watch it you beleive that art and culture are the instruments that should change the world.
We conituniue our work in Saint Petersburg as long as we can. 110 children and teenagers continue their trainings, they practice new disciplines and create new artistic products.
But it is also importnat for us to develop and to be in the places where we can bring changes. That’s why starting from May we are working in a small city Zeitz in Germany that receive refugees and migrants from Ukrainem, Syria, Afghanistan and other countries.
Very soon (as soon as all the technical issues will be resolved) we will launch a campaign on GlobalGiving for our projects in Germany and I wil tell you more about our first results and our plans for the future.
Thank you for your support!
