In recent weeks, a truly significant milestone was celebrated at Foyer Ek’Abana in the Democratic Republic of the Congo: the young boys completed their annual carpentry training course! To mark this special occasion, a graduation ceremony was organized where they received their diplomas: a tangible symbol of growth and empowerment.
This is a key achievement to share, as for these young men, it represents far more than just a certificate: it is a concrete response to the daily challenges they face due to epilepsy. Unfortunately, in Sub-Saharan Africa, this medical condition still carries strong stigma and leads to social isolation, but at Foyer Ek’Abana, each individual’s achievement becomes a victory for everyone.
Here, every young person finds a warm welcome, support, and the opportunity to build a better future. Thanks to Sister Natalina and the center’s staff, the Foyer has become an essential pillar of the community: it shelters young girls driven away from their families due to unfair accusations of witchcraft, street children, and youth in need of guidance toward new horizons. The carpentry course not only equips them with professional skills for future employment, but also restores their sense of dignity and helps them feel like valued, active members of society once again.
In a challenging context like Bukavu, where violence and instability disrupt daily life, reaching these milestones proves that Foyer Ek’Abana remains a safe haven where new beginnings are truly possible.
A heartfelt thank you goes to everyone who has supported and continues to support this project. It is only thanks to this generous help that this haven of welcome and opportunity can remain alive. To keep building a brighter and more hopeful future for the children and youth of the center, your continued support is vital: please consider donating today to help these young people reach even greater milestones!
