Last year for the holidays I made donations to La Reserva’s projects on Global Giving in the names of each of my grand nieces and nephews. Most of them are preschool age, but are old enough to appreciate that their present helped create better homes for monkeys, sloths, and other creatures of the jungle. For the older ones it sparked an interest in La Reserva’s reforestation efforts and opened the possibility of taking time to volunteer at LRFF during a family vacation. The gift was so well received that I’ve decided to do the same thing again this year. After all, planting trees is one of the best ways I know to help mitigate the effects of global climate change which is going to have a significant impact on these kids’ lives.
Chocuaco’s Forest Corridor is an excellent project for such a gift donation. It will cause another 2500 trees to be planted, be a model to local families of how they can participate in increasing forested areas without sacrificing the income they need from their land, and it will connect two forest islands giving many species a better chance of survival.
Make your holiday gifts a living legacy to those you love and help us keep on planting!
