In the early hours of June 11, 2024, communities across southern Chile were awakened to the devastating impacts of severe flooding caused by an unprecedented meteorological event. As rivers swelled and homes were inundated, families faced the unimaginable: losing their homes, their belongings, and their sense of security.
One family we encountered during our response was the González family in Curanilahue. Like many others, they were caught off guard by the rapidly rising waters. Their home, once a sanctuary, became a scene of chaos as they scrambled to salvage what they could. With their livelihoods—small workshops and farming equipment—destroyed, the future looked bleak.
Recognizing the urgent need for help, our team mobilized quickly. Within days, we launched a comprehensive relief campaign. On June 13, we began distributing essential supplies: cleaning kits, shelter materials, and food. The peak of our efforts came on June 15, when we delivered drying equipment and vital resources to families like the Gonzálezs.
The moment we arrived at their home, we saw the relief in their eyes. Our team provided them with turbo heaters to dry out their space, along with cleaning supplies to help restore some normalcy. But our support didn't stop there. We connected them with vocational training programs to help them regain their footing in their businesses. The joy on their faces when they received new tools was a reminder of the resilience of the human spirit.
Thanks to the generosity of our donors, we have supported over 6,450 individuals affected by this disaster. Each story, like that of the González family, is a testament to the impact your contributions make. Your support not only provides immediate relief but also paves the way for recovery and hope.
As we move forward, we remain committed to assisting the most affected families in areas such as entrepreneurship, education, and health. Together, we can help rebuild lives and restore dreams.
