Support children infected and affected by HIV/AIDS

a.    Education support:

Education enhances individual child’s skills & capacities and cultivates matured individuals who are capable of planning their future and taking the right choice of their career. But for our education support to around 200 underprivileged children from Dindigul and Namakkal districts would have lost their school hours leading to dropouts basically due to ill-health of themselves, their parents and poor economic family status. Therefore we provided school bag and stationery to 200 most deserving children during the last two months.

b.    Nutrition support:

The whole objective of nutrition support is to bring down stunting growth & nutritional anemia among targeted children. As per the national family health survey, 38.4% of children in India have stunted growth. It aims to bring down anemia among children, women & adolescent girls by 3% every year. By providing monthly nutrimix package consisting of nutrimix powder, bengal gram, dates, green gram, puffed rice etc increased the nutrition status of these children ensuring food security in their young age. So we provided nutrition support to all 100 most deserving children.

c.    Health care support:

Children are usually prone to illness through unhygienic food, contaminated water or uncleaned hands. So we wished to create health awareness among HIV children by providing the health care package. This kit consisted of bathing & washing soaps, talcum powder, tooth paste, brush, oil, shampoo etc. Nearly 100 children got this support and improved their personality. As the children kept themselves clean and neat, they received extra care & concern from school teachers and their class mates.

Outcomes of project:

• Children who got education supports are regular to school now and continuing their studies.
• Long absenteeism and dropout to school due to lack of education support was thus reduced.
• Children would score good marks in their quarterly exams in September 2018.
• These 100 children escaped from malnutrition status for the time being.
• Normal height and weight of target children are enhanced.
• Had a chance to share their problems and joys with peer groups by coming together.
• Reduced stigma and discrimination among peer groups by fresh outlook.
• Besides mutual friendship and cordial relationship was also enhanced.

Wayforward/Future Plan:

We proposed to provide community home care for 1200+ such HIV infected/affected children. But we could cover around 400 children and the rest of them are waiting for their turn. Hence may we request the GlobalGiving donors to contribute generously so that we might be able to support all these deserving children in the coming days.

As the proverb “Stitching on time saves nine” says, we were able to support the most needed and deserving children just to escape from their educational and nutritional problems. These children have to walk miles together to achieve their future ambition. The contribution of GlobalGiving and Impact Guru has provided us a beautiful platform to expose the problems of HIV children so that the awesome donors could contribute their share towards the developments of these children.
