In 2013 we provided 140 boys and girls between 0 and 5 years old, from the remote rural town of Plato, Magdalena, in the northen region of Colombia, with nutritional , health, educational, family integration support and recreational activities. These young babies and children come from vulnerable homes, they live in tough socio-economic conditions.Born in poor homes, torn apart by conflict, mostly from single mothers, carpenters, fishers and fruit sellers, this children hardly have enough to eat and are frequently not registeres which implies they can't access the already scarce goverment services.
We counducted 140 registration of babies and young children reestablishing their right to identity, making them visible and giving them access to further services and oportunities from the start. Registration and an identity is a Human Right, we wanted to make sure all the children in the community were off to the best start.
Our organization also conducted a vaccination campaing, in order to restablish the children's rights to health, teaching parents about the importance of clean water and sanitaton in their development, 140 boys and girls were vaccinated and can now look foward to healthier lives.
Education is a fundamental Human Right, we provided 140 children in the community with quality day-care and specialized early childish education. Our wonderful workers and volunteers also organized a Book fair and reading event during carnaval providing rarely seen recreational activities for everyone!
Last year we not only provided support for the children, but also for their families with high-quality daycare, recreational activities, educational trainning in healthy nutricion and sanitation. Culminating in a grand march by mothers and volunteers to inform the community about the benefits of breastfeeding and a healthy nutrition.
