In rural Colombia children have very few oportunities to play and have new experiences that further their development. Violence and stunted economic growth in ther communities prevent them from having almost any recreational and cultural activities available. So in celebration of halloween or as it is now in Colombia Children's Day, our amazing group of project leaders and volunteers provided a wonderful set of activities for the children of San Andrés de Sotavento a remote village in the North East Colombian province of Cordoba, where we have development programs.
Recreational activities and playing is fundamental for the healthy development of boy and girls, new experiencies are the best way to encourage learning and development during childhood. So on the weekend of the 26 of October, the children of the San Andrés de Sotavento got together in their community play room and games and cultural activities that are rarely enjoyed were aboundant that day, and laughter and games swarmed the room.
The Corporación Juntos Construyendo Futuro team conducted various ludo-educational activities: there was a dance worshop set to Michael Jackson's thriller, the creation of toilet paper mummies, duck duck goose, hide and seek among others, as well as a Halloween film which was a first for lots of the children that had never watch a movie on a big screen before! A 146 of our beneficiaries took part of the celebration including children and their families, that enjoyed a rare peaceful afternoon of fun and entertaiment.
Celebrations such as this create opportunities for healthy recreation, integration and teaching-learning processes aimed at improving the quality of live of young children in rular areas, as well as improve and strengthen our ties and relationship with the community.
