An update on our work with children in crisis

During this time of unprecedented global conflict and crises, thank you for continuing to shield the world’s most vulnerable children.

Your support delivers the emergency aid children need to survive crises as well as the long-term support they need to heal, recover and build a brighter future.

In this report, you’ll find the latest updates on three crises around the world—and how supporters like you deliver life-changing and life-saving relief to the world’s most vulnerable children.

Cape Verde storm recovery

On August 11, a powerful tropical storm swept over the island of São Vicente, devastating local communities.

In five hours, the island received a year’s worth of rain, and tragically, nine people—including four children—lost their lives in the disaster and more than 1,500 people’s homes were destroyed.

But your support helped mobilize our local teams to deliver food, clothing, hygiene products and psychological support that hundreds of children and families need to heal, recover and thrive.

Your continued support provides child preparedness and protection efforts by sending a natural disaster emergency kit, so when tragedy strikes, a child has everything they need to evacuate safely.

Update on food crisis in Gaza: Starvation at worst level

“Life is a constant struggle,” said Reem Alreqeb, the Program Director for SOS Children’s Villages in Gaza. “We are struggling every day for water, electricity, food and so many other needs for the children.”

Malnutrition and deaths from starvation are steadily climbing in Gaza. Children need immediate aid to receive the nutritious food their young bodies need to grow and thrive.

Your support of the Children in Crisis project provides food and shelter to children who are without parental care in Gaza.

Developing tomorrow’s protectors: Disaster training in Tanzania and Zanzibar

We can’t predict when emergencies will strike, but we can prepare the humanitarians who will respond.

Not only do individuals like you provide the immediate aid children need to survive and thrive after conflict, you lay the groundwork for future generations of children to receive the care they need in crisis.

Because of your compassion, our teams in flood-prone Tanzania and Zanzibar participated in a comprehensive humanitarian response training, ensuring they have the most up-to-date knowledge and skills in child protection, trauma response and emergency coordination.

Thank you for your generosity and investment in the immediate, life-saving aid children in crisis deserve.
