A NEW APPROACH
S-T-R-E-T-C-H! When you run a homeless shelter for families and the need is greater than the number of rooms you have available-what do you do? At Genesis Home, we face this issue every day. We are working hard at bringing our families in, helping them to get the help they need to stabilize their family and moving them into permanent housing. But...our help does not stop there. Our staff continue to check in with the newly housed families, making sure that they are safe and secure in new housing and continuing to provide counseling and support. This allows us to bring in new families in crisis: the ones who are sleeping in their cars, who are escaping domestic violence or who have just run out of options. Serving more and doing more is our goal.
WHAT IS THE SOLUTION?
Family homelessness is a very real problem. The number of homeless children in America has risen to 1.6 million. Many of us look at a figure like that, feel helpless, and wonder if we can make an impact. We can. For over 23 years, Genesis Home has helped families move from crisis to stability, and hundreds of families have come through our doors and made their way to a better life. Dedicated staff implement our mission, but it is you, our supporters, who sustain our programs. Your financial gifts allow us to offer security, dignity, and hope to our families.
HELP US BE THE SOLUTION!
$25 helps us buy bedding for a new family
$50 provides one shelter night for a family
$75 helps us support our after school tutoring, helping to keep homeless kids at grade level
$100 helps provide direct client assistance for a family moving into their new home
We are pleased to report that in the last six months the average length of stay for a family has decreased from 12 to 8 months. This means families are getting back on their feet sooner through effective case management and many more families can join our program in their time of crisis.
