Summary

Uganda loses an estimated 122,000 hectares of forest every year, leaving communities vulnerable to climate change, soil erosion, and loss of biodiversity. Children for a Greener Uganda empowers school children to become environmental champions by planting and caring for trees in schools and surrounding communities. This project will support 30 schools to plant 50,000 indigenous and fruit trees, provide environmental education, and nurture a generation of climate-conscious young leaders.

Challenge

High deforestation rates in Uganda threaten water sources, agricultural productivity, and wildlife habitats. Many rural communities lack awareness of sustainable environmental practices, and children grow up with limited knowledge of conservation. While schools often have land suitable for planting trees, they lack seedlings, tools, and training to implement reforestation initiatives.

Solution

This project equips schoolchildren with the skills, tools, and enthusiasm to restore the environment. We will: Provide indigenous and fruit tree seedlings to 30 partner schools. Train teachers and student eco-clubs on tree planting, care, and environmental stewardship. Provide tools such as watering cans, hoes, and tree guards. Establish school nurseries so children learn to raise their own seedlings. Conduct environmental education workshops and awareness campaigns.

Long-Term Impact

Planting 50,000 trees will improve soil health, enhance biodiversity, reduce carbon emissions, and provide shade and fruit for students. More importantly, thousands of children will develop a deep understanding of environmental protection. As these young people grow into adults, they carry sustainable practices into their homes and communities-creating a ripple effect of climate action across Uganda like; Tree-planting drives at each school, Establishing student-led eco-clubs, School nurseries.
