There has been some light at the end of the tunnel in 2018. Rain across most of Kenya this year was at a level that enabled crops to be grown and grass for livestock to be replenished. This gave the country a respite from drought.
Sadly, however, those youths and families who gravitated to Kitale town during the drought are, in the main, still with us. Many of them had eaten or sold their meagre food stores and livestock and had little to go home to. We are still working with these families, enabling them to transition from poverty and street life to earning a living and finding a home. We are optimistic that with the right training in life skills and income generation, some will feel confident to move back to their home areas and give life there another chance. Those that prefer to make a new life in Kitale will, hopefully, be empowered to obtain vocational or business skills training and assisted in business start ups. The younger members of society will be encouraged and enabled to enroll in the school system.
We have now entered the annual long dry season and are optimistic that this will end at the appropriate time and 2019’s wet seasons will visit us on time!
Thank you for all your support during 2018. We look forward to our continuing relationship in 2019.
Wishing you all a very merry Christmas and a happy 2019!
