A Jerry Giraffe training session was conducted on the 7 August 2021 at St Michaels and All Angels,
Ms Mildred Jutzen of the Fikelela Aids project facilitated the workshop. Four Sunday School teachers availed themselves for the training. This project is an initiative of the Anglican Diocese Cape Town.
St Michael’s & All Angels follows a Montessori Style of teaching. We have therefore, incorporated some of the Montessori philosophies in the Jerry Giraffe training program.
Although the Jerry Giraffe program has a HIV/AIDS focus, it can easily adapt itself to focus on other topical issues such as COVID, Gender base violence and even the loss of a parent through divorce or death. This is just to mention a few.
We also craft, rather than use the colouring in sheets supplied in the teaching aid pack. This approach worked with the Jerry material and the kids look forward to another Jerry story.
Seeing that this material is easily adaptable, I would suggest that on moving forward, look at incorporating some of the other possibilities that Jerry lends itself to.
