"Goodness is about character - integrity, honesty, kindness, generosity, moral courage, and the like. More than anything else, it is about how we treat other people."

One of the grandmothers supported by Chikumbuso is always on the move. No matter where you go in Ng'ombe you can be sure that sooner or later Ruth will show up. She is always moving about despite the fact that she is over 90 years old. Her reason for this is her "business" of selling second hand clothes. Daily she comes by the Chikumbuso community center to try to make some money. She might in an entire days "work" make $1. When we ask her why, at her age, she is still selling used clothing she explains that her business is an entry point.

"If you see me with a bag of clothes you will look at them, then you will ask me how I am doing, and if you ask me how I am doing then I can ask you for some small items that I need." She goes on to say that If she were to come around the center without her clothing to sell people would get tired of her.

At Chikumbuso we do not "tire" of our grandmothers. They are an integral part of our mission statement as we "Remember to do for others".
