There is always something to be learned at every age about Animals in our World and this summer at Chikumbuso the students from grades K-6 are learning about the animals around them. The teachers have decided to spend their "winter" months in a school wide unit on The Animal Kingdom. This means the theme is used in writing, reading, math, and the arts. The idea behind it is to build unity in the school, study hard, prepare reports, artwork and skits and then invite the community to come and see just what Chikumbuso is producing!
Throughout this study one of our visitors is helping the students, particularly the fifth and sixth graders, to paint a mural on the wall of the school. Artwork and creativity have an amazing ability to help with the healing of emotions and personal struggles. We are so thrilled to have Violet helping these children do just that.
Speaking of art two of our students at Chikumbuso have been invited to participate in the StART foundation program. These children are invited to work with professional Zambian artists in a four day workshop where their art skills will be challenged and their own "voice" will be encouraged. The workshops are on going and the children are very excited to be a part of the Zambian Art scene!
Please encourage these students as you continue to support the school through the buying of books and supplies. The one gift you can give a child that can never be taken away is their education...
Thank you so much for your help!
