Thank you for your incredible support. We're excited to share more about our work in the field!
Funds raised through GlobalGiving support our general water fund, so we can use your gift where it's most needed. While we may not be assigning your donation to a specific project as we do on mycharity: water, rest assured 100% of what we receive will fund water projects in the areas of greatest need.
But we’re not just funding new water projects; we’re also working with our local partners to make sure that we keep water flowing. The average well is pumped 5 million times a year. Breakdowns are inevitable.
Through our Pipeline program, we're tackling the water crisis in a whole new way. It's a system of local leaders, innovative technology and trained mechanics all working together to keep water flowing at charity: water projects around the world. In Ethiopia, this means training teams of local mechanics who can respond when a well breaks.
Additionally, as part of our efforts to increase the sustainability of our projects, we developed a remote sensor with the help of a generous grant from Google.org in 2012. The sensors are being installed in Tigray, Ethiopia and transmit data hourly over a cell phone network to our database. There, we analyze patterns and alert local mechanics if an interruption of service is detected. By the end of 2016, we plan to install 3,500 sensors throughout our existing projects in Tigray.
