Half way through 2023!

New Boat

Dear Casa Guatemala Family,

It is hard to believe that half the year has already past! It has been so great to have the project back to our regular schedule and although we haven't had any long term volunteers yet, we have been getting some short term individuals and teams who have been helping us to continue our important work along side our hard working staff. This weekend the kids will head home to their summer vacations! It is the second vacations of the school year! And they are really looking forward to it! It has been unseasonally hot and we have had no rain in almost two months. Usually the rainy season would have started by now, but because of Climate change and El Niño, we are dealing with swealtering heatwaves and drought that is starting to effect the crops and drinking water supply. The town has been without water for weeks and our well has been dangerously low. We are praying for rain and it looks like there is a tropical storm brewing now that will bring us a torrential downpour which could potenially cause landslides and flash floods because the ground is so hard and dry. As the saying goes, when it rains it pours! Fingers crossed it won't hit us too hard!

This week we have our yearly visit from our friends from the Global Truth Center in Los Angeles who have raised over $25,000 toward the purchase of a new boat and motor for us as well as a major makeover to our volunteer house which has been empty since 2020! We are so grateful to have their support and are always looking for new groups who want to make a yearly tradition of joining us in a major project!

We were really happy to have Carine and Derek, an amazing couple from Canada, who are traveling the world, contact us about coming to Rio Dulce and filming our work for their YouTube Series, Connecting Worlds. Their Instagram page, We Did It Our Way showcases their talent as storytellers, filmmakers and intrepid travelers and I knew right away that this would be an incredible opportunity to get our story out to the world. We had a great time visiting with the kids and staff and they got to see first hand our day to day life. I really felt like we connected and sure enough after seeing their finished work, it is clear that they fully captured what Casa Guatemala is. I am so grateful and honoured that we have had this chance to tell our story and I know you will really enjoy their work too!

Please check out their video in the links below and be sure to share it with your friends and family so we can grow our support. And while you are at it, be sure to give them a like and subscribe to help them continue on their path of sharing stories and connecting people.

You can see from the video the importance of what we are doing. But we can’t do it without you. Your donations make this possible so thank you too! None of this would be possible without the hundreds of supporters around the world who see who we are and show us their love by donating to our cause!

With love and gratitude,
Heather
