From the basketball court, to the soccer field and now the football field, the H4H Global League is helping use the power of sport to make a real difference. The Touchdown 4 Hope launch at former 49′ers Kezar Stadium in San Francisco on November 2nd, 2010 was a huge success!
Oakland Raiders players Desmond Bryant (DT), Matt Shaunghnessy (DE), and Lamarr Houston (DE) gave their time to share their knowledge with kids from SF and Oakland Community Centers!
Ubuntu, Focus, and Responsibility were the tools of the day. Kids began their focus and enjoyed a reading of “A Moment of Quiet is Nothing to Fear” from local San Francisco author, Christine Gardner. Then H4H South African Director Kita (also Celtics Ubuntu coach) shared his inspirational words with the kids. Fitness and cooperation were emphasized as kids ran through actual Oakland Raiders drills, coached by the NFL Players. After the activities, kids gathered for a circle time, where the athletes shared their wisdom with the kids. Former Harvard grad Desmond talked to kids about being responsible, staying in school, and keeping your dreams alive, while Matt addressed the problems of bullying and how to have empathy/ubuntu for others. After a moving question and answer session, the last question kids wanted to know was “Are you really in Madden 11?”. . .all three players players grinned with a resounding “YUP!”
At the end, the kids were treated to Patxi’s Pizza and great gifts were donated by EA Sports, ESPN, Nolet, Rightbrain Promo, the Golden State Warriors, the San Francisco Giants, the Oakland A’s, & Stanford Football.
One, Two, Three. . .TOUCHDOWN 4 HOPE!
