Thank you to all who gave to this important campaign, "Change lives in Zanzibar through Music." Together, we were able to raise $1,769.45. While we didn't reach our full goal of $9,000, your contribution helped at least 10 young students pursue music learning here at the Dhow Countries Music Academy through scholarships and support for materials and transportation.
We continue to support 80 students in certificate and diploma programs, as well as education in villages and workshops with children with disabilities. Your contributions also helped us sustain our essential teachers by providing the materials necessary to succeed in musical classrooms.
Our students also appear in live performances throughout the year to showcase their talents and several graduates have gone on to pursue paying gigs in local hotels and entertainment spots around Zanzibar. Your contribution has helped us transform lives through music, by giving young people the chance to pursue a musical education at the only music academy in Zanzibar.
However, youth still struggle with unemployment and the life of a musician is not easy. We continue to seek funds through a new campaign launched on September 19, 2019, called "Help us keep Zanzibar's only music academy open!" -- #FollowTheMusic #DCMANeedsYou! We hope you will contribute there toward our goal of raising $70,000 USD by December 2019.
