Two 7.1 and 7.5 earthquakes struck Venezuela 39 seconds apart on June 24, leaving thousands without water, shelter, or basic services. Chamos, an organisation with over 19 years on the ground, activated an emergency response within hours, deploying LifeStraw water filters, baby formula, therapeutic food, medicines, and hygiene kits to children and families in the worst-affected areas. Your donation reaches communities that have no one else to turn to.
On 24 June, two 7.1 and 7.5 earthquakes struck north-central Venezuela within 39 seconds. Thousands are affected across Caracas and La Guaira. Aftershocks continue. Communities already living in extreme hardship have lost access to clean water, shelter, and basic services. The government has declared a national emergency. For the children and families Chamos works with every day, this is a crisis layered on top of a crisis.
Chamos was already in Venezuela when the earthquake struck - with supplies warehoused and teams on the ground. We activated our response within hours: deploying LifeStraw filters, purification tablets, baby formula, therapeutic food, medicines, and hygiene kits; mobilising partnerships to extend our reach; and reconstructing damaged schools and community spaces to restore clean water, nutrition, and education for the children we serve.
Chamos will restore clean water, nutrition, and education services to children and families across the affected communities. Damaged schools and programme centres will be assessed and rebuilt. Beyond recovery, this response strengthens our permanent presence in Venezuela - ensuring that the communities we have served for 19 years emerge more resilient, with the programmes and infrastructure they need to protect every child's future.
