We received a message from a young woman asking for help with a dog. She said that she had found him as a puppy and had him scanned for a micro-chip but he didn’t have one. She decided to try and keep him. Soon after she’d taken him in, he started breaking out with a skin condition. She didn’t know what it was. She treated him for worms, along with fleas. She did baths and used hot spot spray, but he kept getting worse and his hair was falling out. She said that she had tried to heal him homeopathically, but this was over her head now and this dog needed help as soon as possible. We told her we could take him into our program and get him the medical help that he needed. She agreed and brought him to us.
His name was Creed and he was adorable and heart-breaking, all at the same time. He was missing the majority of his fur, his skin was wet and “weepy” and he had a pungent odor to him. He was very thin, he scratched constantly and he just looked miserable. The woman signed our surrender form and left him with us. Did she wait far too long to reach out? Yes, but she did eventually reach out for help and for that we are grateful.
I loaded him up and headed straight to the vet. Creed was diagnosed with both a yeast infection and mange. He was pretty itchy, stinky and miserable. He was only about a year old and yet he had endured so much suffering. We got the medications he needed and headed back to Chain of Hope to finally settle in.
The next day, into the tub he went! Creed had a nice, soothing, medicated bath. We gave him worm medication to rid him of any internal parasites. He was on the road to true healing!
Through all of this, Creed was a real champion! He has the absolute best personality! He is funny, affectionate, playful, and grateful. With both time and excellent care, Creed's new hair started growing! It filled in so beautifully and he is the most handsome boy! Of course, we knew that along!
Creed was adopted by the most incredible man who works from home! He is getting loads of attention and love. Have a great life, Creed! Thanks for your support everyone so that we can save dogs like wonderful, deserving Creed!
