Throughout 2024, Step Ahead will celebrate our co-founder and executive director, Kimberly Quinley, for her 40 YEARS of service to children and families in Thailand through a special campaign to gain 40 NEW RECURRING MONTHLY PARTNERS in 2024.
Kimberly arrived in Thailand in 1984 to work at an orphanage in northern Thailand. After learning that 90 % of those kids had families, and are at a greater risk for trafficking, suicide, homelessness and incarceration when they age-out of orphanages-- Kimberly, together with the dream team at Step Ahead, committed to building the capacity of adults to improve the wellbeing of children and prevent children from family separation.
Step Ahead's flagship family strengthening program called, "Keeping Families Together" supports Thai families and our "Freedom for Families" program focuses on refugee families. Step Ahead in collaboration with ACT (Alternative Care Thailand) produced a Family Strengthening Handbook and training to support NGOs and the Thai government to fortify families in crisis. Step Ahead also delivers training in Trauma-Informed Care, Child Safeguarding, TBRI (Trust-Based Relational Intervention), and foster care. Step Ahead is partnering with the Thai government, Care for Children and Sahathai Foundation to help design child protection mechanisms and gatekeeping in twenty northeast provinces to prevent children from entering government orphanages and transition children back to biological families with support, kinship care, foster care and adoption.
