McKenzie is a little girl with a lot of personality who recently finished a six month hospital stay at Randall Children’s Hospital for Enterovirus D68, a serious respiratory illness. Throughout her long stay, McKenzie expressed her love of music. One of CCA’s MyMusicRx Specialists, Jess, noticed her enthusiasm and worked with her for over two months using both digital and instrumental music to peak her interest. McKenzie always put on a bright smile when Jess entered the room which made creating music together on the MyMusicRx iPad apps very special for both of them. When McKenzie also showed interest in singing songs together, Jess would bring in the guitar to accompany her expressive vocals, which made her feel like the rock star she really is.
CCA continues to deliver MyMusicRx to thousands of seriously ill kids like Chris across the U.S. and Canada, serving 4,000 children in the past year. Trained MyMusicRx Specialists engage kids in bedside sing-a-longs, offer instrument lending for self-expression, and provide access to CCA’s digital music medicine program, MyMusicRx.org. Scientifically proven to help pediatric patients manage pain, boost immunity, and decrease emotional stress, CCA uses music medicine to heal.
With your generous donation, we can grow this program and spread the healing joy of music to more children, teens, and families.
