Micah is a shining star of the MyMusicRx program. Between the ages of 15 and 18, Micah was in the hospital many nights battling chronic infections from an immune deficiency disorder and an incurable disease called Bronchiectasis. It was during that time CCA’s trained music specialists first taught him how to play the guitar.
Now, Micah’s world is filled with music. He’s continued to write songs and sing beyond the walls of the hospital, and even caught the attention of multi-instrumentalist and producer, Chris Funk, of The Decemberists and Black Prairie, and a CCA Board Member.
Micah believes in the positive benefits of music. He says, “I have a big thank you for MyMusicRx and CCA for always being there, being kind, and giving me the joy that simple music can bring. It [music] has more than just healing powers.”
CCA continues to deliver MyMusicRx to thousands of seriously ill kids like Micah across the U.S. and Canada, serving 4,400 children in the past year. Trained MyMusicRx Specialists engage kids in bedside sing-a-longs, offer instrument lending for self-expression, and provide access to CCA’s digital music medicine program, MyMusicRx.org. Scientifically proven to help pediatric patients manage pain, boost immunity, and decrease emotional stress, CCA uses music medicine to heal.
With your generous donation, we can grow this program and spread the healing joy of music to more children, teens, and families.
