CCA is thrilled to be chosen as GlobalGiving's Project of the Month for March 2014! Learn more about this exciting honor by visiting globalgiving.org/project-of-the-month-club.
Jenny comes across as a quiet, shy little girl. And then she starts to sing. From Justin Bieber to One Direction to a rousing rendition of “Old MacDonald,” Jenny rocks them all on vocals, ukulele, and piano.
All this joyful noise was made possible by CCA’s MusicRx Specialists, who started working with Jenny two years ago when she was diagnosed with leukemia. According to her mother, Ana, these musical moments have made a huge difference in Jenny’s life. “Before MusicRx, she would just lie in the hospital bed feeling bored and unhappy. But now when the music specialist comes in, she brightens right up. It makes her feel calmer and gives her something to look forward to.”
Jenny is one of the 2,382 Oregon and Southwest Washington children who have requested bedside music medicine visits last year. Trained MusicRx Specialists bring state-of-the-art mobile carts loaded with instruments and interactive technology to lend, providing tailored music experiences in every unit of the children’s hospitals we serve. Last year, total in-hospital service interactions counted 11,320. In addition, volunteer musicians filled hospital hallways and lobbies with 152 hours of soothing, acoustic music.
With your generous donation, we can grow this program and spread the healing joy of music to more children, teens, and families.
