One of CCA’s MusicRx® Specialists, Anna, recently encountered a special young patient named Savannah. Anna found Savannah in a listless mood, but quickly engaged her with music medicine. Savannah became immersed with a ukulele, and could be heard improvising songs an hour after the visit. She sang about life in the hospital, pets, and many other things. Hospital staff gathered outside her room to listen as her family watched in amazement. One of the staff members remarked, “She’s found her voice!”
CCA’s award-winning MusicRx program, comprised of music specialists and trained volunteers, infuses hospitals with the healing power of music, delivering bedside music and allowing kids to prescribe their own music medicine with exclusive mobile music carts custom-designed to hold a lending library of nearly 100 specialized instruments, interactive songwriting and recording technology, a karaoke machine, and an iPod doc loaded with music for every age.
Last year, CCA’s MusicRx delivered music services 15,915 times and provided 530 palliative interactions. CCA also launched a new digital program, MyMusicRx.org, which delivers the healing power of music to kids in the U.S. and Canada.
With your generous donation we can grow this program and spread the healing joy of music to more children, teens, and families.
