Parent’s perspective
My son is in inclusion project.
When I asked, what he wanted for his birthday, the only wish he had was “to bring a cake to school and to blow candles on it with his friends.”
As simple as that.
My boy waited for his birthday crossing off days on a calendar. And finally, the day of his birthday came. We brought the cake and the candles. When we entered the class, everyone started to chant “Happy birthday,” gathering around Erik, saying good wishes and kind words. To me this was a sweet and even euphoric moment, seeing acceptance from all kids and the proper response from my son: he shook hands; he said his thanks, acted calm and relaxed, and he felt very comfortable in this friendly atmosphere. Erik blew the candles, cut the cake, and accepted wishes and applause.
It was a short but priceless moment.
Many thanks to everyone working on the project and helping it one way or the other.
All of you are making this world better for my son and many other kids.
