Empowering Women and Girls

This project aims to build the economic capacity of women and girls, in both urban and rural communities. In the rural areas, THINK will undertake agriculture to promote food security, protect the environment and preserve endangered species of wild animals that families hunt for meat (protein) in their diet. Produce from the farms will boost the economic capacity of women and girls.

• Land preparation of 10 acres of land for the cultivation of cassava, hot peppers, sesame seeds, and rice.
• Location identified for the building of a poultry house for layers and broiler chickens during phase one of our project
• Meetings have been held for the completion of a Women’s Peace Hut that was initiated by UN Women in the District Headquarter Town of Boegeezaye. The center will be used by the women and adolescent girls, to hold meetings and training. Issues identified that are of concern to the women and girls in the rural communities are Forced and Early Marriage that forces them to drop out of school, pregnancy and domestic duties that keep them busy and not able to participate in community activities for women and girls.
• Counseling sessions are held three times a week for adolescent girls on life skills development in partnership with the International Office on Migration (IOM). There are four units in the counseling curriculum we are using. The units have topics that go with each unit. The four units are:

• Interpersonal Development
• Goal Setting and Action Planning
• Teamwork and Leadership
