EVERYONE LOVES CRAFT DAY

By Beverly Gilbert Stone | Director

BEADING at JWHS
BEADING at JWHS

Not only is it FUN but art therapy is commonly used when treating victims of trauma. It is often seen as a way for children to reframe and integrate the traumatic experience as a way to help them cope. Attention is directed into something new, creative and evolving, while providing a safe space from your own negative thoughts. Managing expectations while using crafting to address the symptoms of stress and trauma, puts the emphasis on fun and free expressions, not the pursuit of perfection. The journey matters more than the destination

We were blessed with a donation of a grand selection of beads which give the children wonderful colors and styles of beads to select from. They gather round the table and enjoy the craft and each other while working together, and learning about color combinations, fine motor skills and the craft of jewelry making. Today they are creating some beaded items for themselves and to share.

At the end of the crafts experience, everyone comes away with their masterpiece.
