Heartwarming stories from our Care Kitchens

By Paula Nierras | Team GK

Preparing lunch meals by the thousands on a daily basis is no joke. The rigor of our everyday operations obviously demands hard work from everyone, but beyond the physical exhaustion experienced by the small group of people running our Care Kitchens, it is the heart that is always asked to work overtime.

Thankfully, we never run out of reasons to care day in and day out. And this time around, we'd like to share some of these stories with you.

Simple moments that mean the world to us

That moment of excitement when kids try to guess the day's meal is a staple scene in the classrooms. Other kids would sometimes shriek in delight when they discover that it's their favorite dish they're having. Some would even ask for a second serving!

Kids enjoying what was lovingly prepared for them is the energy source of our kitchen teams. Their smiles alone are reason enough to wake up before daybreak and start operations as early as 3AM.

New friends that come our way

"It was a short day but I felt that this is something I'll remember when I go back from where I came from. It feels like I gave something." - Lee Seyeon, Korea

Everyday, we are convinced that there is no shortage of people who care. Seyeon is just one of the many volunteers whom we've crossed paths with in our kitchens. And we take stock in people like her, and like you, knowing that so many others have the hearts to take on this journey with us.

Moments of affirmation

Every so often, we encounter moments like this that affirm the work we do everyday. By addressing hunger of the kids we care for in our kitchens, we are not just nourishing their bodies. By ending hunger, we are encouraging their dreams.

***

None of these moments wouldn't have been possible if not for people like you. We hope that you continue to care with us, and inspire others to do the same. Hunger ends where caring begins!
