Together with Deaf Leaders Foundation (DLF), another registered NGO, we jointly organized and hosted the India Deaf Expo 2017 in Kolkata. This was held on 11-14th December 2017 at the Eastern Zonal Cultural Centre in Salt Lake Kolkata. This was an international conference on technologies, film festival, sign language awareness, culture awareness and education for the deaf. Almost 1000 delegates consisting of educators, parents, doctors, audiologists, sociologists, psychologists, and linguistics from various places within and outside India attended to contribute their knowledge and experience on deaf culture awareness and education. A few companies including CBM India Trust in Bangalore and Charity World Switzerland generously agreed to help sponsor the cost for the exposition.
Classes are being held Thursday and Saturday of every week for a couple of hours each day. We have seen a drop in the number of students during the last few months. We want to offer to the students’ high quality computer education by a qualified teacher who can communicate in sign language to them. That has been very challenging and unless we are able to do that student retention is becoming a challenge as well. The present teacher currently teaches the students the very basics of computer knowledge including how to use a computer, email, copy to and from a portable hard drive, print and how to use Microsoft office such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint etc. Our hope is to be able to enroll more students, revive the classes and put them back on a positive track.
Thanks again for your continued support.
