This project is our think tank - an ongoing study that advances knowledge on care work in Brazil, generating data through our exclusive Lab Think Olga methodology. The debates and analyses from our LABs reach millions of people through our communication strategies and social awareness efforts. In this way, we actively contribute to the development of the National Care Policy - a Federal Government initiative that impacts 47.5 million people, 78% of whom are women.
Care work sustains life, families, and communities. It includes essential tasks such as taking care of the house and domestic chores, supporting children's education and wellbeing, caring for the elderly and people with disabilities, among others. This work is fundamental, but it remains undervalued, unpaid or poorly compensated. In Brazil, this work falls mostly on women, especially poor black women. It amplifies gender inequality, female poverty, and women's mental health issues.
A deeper and more qualified understanding of care work by the press, policymakers, and the private sector is crucial to reducing gender inequality. We've had a mass media impact, reaching over 12 million people and engaging major media and digital channels. We are also in constant dialogue with the Government and the National Interministerial Secretariat for Care and Family to collaborate on the National Care Policy, with a special focus on mental health.
We have achieved mid-term impact by mobilizing society to raise awareness and media coverage of care work in Brazil, and by engaging public agents to prioritize the topic. As one of the most unequal countries in the world, our long-term goal is to change public policies for fair remuneration and equal distribution of care work - dismantling patriarchal structures, influencing culture, breaking the cycle of poverty for women, and creating a virtuous circle for all.
