                 Care for 150 children of Quarry workers in Tamilnadu

PROGRESS REPORT FROM MARCH 2015 TO JUNE 2015.

PROJECT AIM:          

To attain 100% literacy among children and provide life oriented education to prevent children from becoming child labourers in the target villages.

Children who studied in the CENTERs:

In both the centers we identified school going children aged between 12-13 and in total 60 school going children from quarry workers families studying 3rd standard to 8th standard.

                                                                                                                                                      TRAINING ON EDUCATIONAL TALENT DEVELOPMENT

SPHEED invited Resources Persons 1.Mr.R.Sekar,Msc.,B.Ed., 2.Mr.A.Alagesan,M.A. B.Ed.,and 3.Mr.Muniappan,Msc.(Biology) B.Ed to provide this fifteen days training from 16th to 30th November 2014 to the beneficiaries children(60) in two centres. The syllabus as per the informal education for this training has been provided by the Block Development Resource Centre, Educational Department which contain the following contents:

  1. Grammer and idioms in Language (Tamil) .
  2. Grammer and phrases, Essay writing and Poetry in English.
  3. Composite Mathematics. Themes, formulas and solutions for solve the problems in Maths
  4. General Science and Physics,Chemistry and Botony subjects
  5. Social Science, History and Geography and world environmental condition
  6. Morale Themes, Ethics and stories
  7. General Knowledge and Memorizing capacity building

The school going children from quarry workers families are much impressed in acquiring this training. The parents have inspired to send their children to this training for their better future. This Training helped this school going children to score good marks in their lessons and   developed their potentiality and made them very talent in education.

 HEALTH CHECK-UP CAMPS:

Monthly health check up camp conducted in each center with the help of private medical practitioners in nearby areas who are voluntarily provided their service for the target children.  Dr. Sivanesan, MBBS, gave the medical health check up to the children and quarry workers’ family members.    During the camps, apart from children, parents of the children and elders in the villages are also benefited.

Women Quarry workers’ SHG Formation and Skill Training

SPHEED initiated for   Quarry Workers’ Women Self-Help Groups in the 5 target villages . 15 members in a group has been joined. Totally 5 Quarry workers’ women Self-Help groups were formed. Now we are planning to provide another alternative Income Generation  programme for them. After a Group discussion with the women SHGs, it has been concluded to provide them Skill Training on Tailoring and Embroidery.

Provided Nutritious Food for children

SPHEED provided nutritious food through our animators. Fried gram, milk and fruits supplied to all the children in each center weekly twice in working days.

CONCLUSION:

During this project period SPHEED has increased its ability to serve for this Quarry Workers’ Families and concentrated in Education of the school going children of this deprived community. With the help of the local body elected members and government school teachers SPHEED is implementing this project with effective manner for the welfare of quarry workers in Pudupalayam and Vasur .
