PROJECT AIM:
To attain 100% literacy among children and provide life oriented education to prevent children from becoming child labourers in the target villages.

Children who studied in the CENTERS:
In both the centers we identified school going children aged between 12-13 and in total 68 school going children from quarry workers families studying in 3rd standard to 8th standard.

DISTRIBUTION OFSCHOOL UNIFORMS , SCHOOL BAGS,READING AND WRITING MATERIALS
SPHEED distributed School uniforms, school bags,reading and writing materials to 68 school going children . We invited Polur Panchayat Union Chairman Mr.Raja 99-Pudhupalayam and Vasur . He is very much appreciated our work for the children of quarry workers and he requested the parents to send their children to schools for their better future use the available services, schemes and supports providing by NGOs like SPHEED providing an opportunity like running tuition centers after school hours and the supports for the improvement of their children in education and health.
EDUCATIONAL TOUR TO QUARRY WORKERS’ CHILDREN
A two days educational tour has been conducted for the children of quarry workers. The tour has been arranged to visit the historical places in Tamilnadu especially Trichy, Kallanai, Thanjavur, Madurai and Poomobuhar where the Chola, Cheran and Pandiyan Kings have established various monuments, check dams, Hindu temples and museums. The children were much happy and learnt more historical and moral ethics through this educational tour.
HEALTH CHECK-UP CAMPS:
Monthly health check up camp conducted in each center with the help of private medical practitioners in nearby areas who are voluntarily provided their service for the target children. Dr. Sivanesan, MBBS, and Mr. Rajagopal, Health Inspector have presided over the camps and gave the medical health check up to the children and family members. Cost Free medicines were distributed to the injured and illness affected children. During the camps, apart from children, parents of the children and elders in the villages are also benefited.
Group formation:
We organized women quarry workers self-help groups. Each group consists of 15 to 20 members. Totally 8 groups were formed. Now we are planning to provide vocational skill training for income generation activity to the SHG members of women quarry workers. So that they could earn individually by self-employment as an additional income to their family.
Provide Nutritious Food:
SPHEED provided nutritious food through our animators. Fried gram, milk and fruits supplied to all the Quarry workers’ children in each center weekly twice in working days.
CULTURAL PROGRAMMES AND SPORTS:
In each care Centre one programme on Cultural activity and sports events have been conducted. The Sports events like running race, long jump, high jump as usually. Now we added Chess game for the student. The teachers and the students were actively participated in these programmes. We awarded prizes and awards to the successful participants in the cultural programme and sports. The Village Presidents were invited and distributed the prizes and awards.We conducted as a regular Programme of Yoga with Meditation. Yoga Teacher name is Mr. R. Palani, M.A., (Yoga)

.Conclusion:
This project is worthwhile to support the quarry workers’ children living in hamlets and tribal areas. SPHEED has taken serious steps to the development of these children by providing health assistance and education to these children. We are planning to implement programmes to these children to improve their general knowledge and environmental protection
