“CARE FOR 150 CHILDREN OF QUARRY WORKERS IN TAMILNADU”

Name of the project:

-         “Care for 150 children of quarry workers in Tamilnadu”

Main aim of the project

-         To provide Quarry children education programe to provide life oriented education to prevent children from becoming child labourers in the target villages.

Project location:

-         District     :            Thiruvannamalai

-         Block        :            Polur

-         Villages    :          1)  99 Pudhupalayam &    2)  Vasur 

Beneficiaries

-         The beneficiary children are aged 10-14 from quarry workers in Polur block, Thiruvannamalai District, Tamilnadu, India

-         The children are currently studying from 3rd to 8th standards

-         Sex Ratio of the beneficiary children

o   In 99 Pudhupalayam village       -        21 male children : 27 female children

o   In Vasur village               -        16 male children : 24 female children

Services provided for the children in the centers

-         Organization of support services in the following areas:

o   Help and guidance in academic studies.

0 . COVID - 19 affected in Tamilnadu. we distributed food materials for their children and families.

o   Health – organization of base-line health check up and growth monitoring once in 3 months – so far 2 health check-ups have been organized

o   Recreation & Facilities for skill acquisition – play materials provided in the centers, opportunities and encouragement given to exhibit and develop skills in singing, dancing, acting, drawing etc .

o   We were organized the Cultural program for the students, regarding to encourage the our National Festivals.

-         5.00 PM to 7.30 PM on all week days

Main aim of the project

-          To attain 100% literacy among the children and provide life oriented education to prevent children from becoming child labourers in the target villages.

Project location:

-          District     :            Thiruvannamalai

-          Block        :            Polur

-          Villages    :          1)  99 Pudhupalayam  &    2)  Vasur 

Beneficiaries :

-          The beneficiary children are aged 10-14 from quarry workers in Polur block, Thiruvannamalai District, Tamilnadu, India

In this year we started the evening class on 29-th  February 2020,.

The students are actively and regularly come to school and evening class regularly.

 Like the Previous period: -The impact of intervention by SPHEED-GLOBAL GIVING among the quarry workers is the  is the awareness on adverse effects of Health Awareness in Tobacco, TB, Dengue, and recently introduced Korana virus also explained to the Quarry workers students and they are being asked to take baths, cleaning the body, and washing the hands before taking meals.

We are trying as hard as that can to find a way to relate the subject to the student’s   daily lives. It will make it much more likely for them to be invested.  For example, if the subject is literature, try to show what they can learn from the characters’ behavior that they can apply to their own lives.

Students think that, at the end of the day, they are at school so they can get ready to get good jobs in the future. This is how most of the people (parents included) see school nowadays, unfortunately.  So take advantage of it, and try to relate their subject to how it can be applied in a work environment. Tell them all about how doctors, engineers, IT developers, writers or dancers can use that information to become successful.

And also our teachers explained and coaching about the women’s Health safety to the quarry workers women.

Mr. R. SENTHIL, Health Inspector, and Social Worker has also visited our Evening Class and spoke about the intensive Diseases and its affects. He spokes the following diseases:

Tobacco: Awareness about the effects of tobacco consumption on oral health and the possibility of smoking behavior among the students.

Dengue: Creating Awareness on Dengue Fever i.e. All four dengue viruses are spread primarily through the bite of an infected Aedes species (Ae. aegypti and Ae. albopictus) mosquito. These mosquitoes also spread chikungunya and Zika viruses.

Tuberculosis:Tuberculosis (TB) remains as an important public health problem in India. Awareness about the disease, its diagnosis, and treatment among public will help in controlling the killer disease. This Awareness programme aims at arriving at an educational diagnosis about TB in an Hills Tribal poor community.

Korana Viruses Awareness: Common signs of infection of korana include respiratory symptoms, fever, and cough, shortness of breath and breathing difficulties. In more severe cases, infection can cause pneumonia, severe acute respiratory syndrome, kidney failure and even death. 

Standard recommendations to prevent infection spread include regular hand washing, covering mouth and nose when coughing and sneezing, thoroughly cooking meat and eggs. Avoid close contact with anyone showing symptoms of respiratory illness such as coughing and sneezing.

CONCLUSION:

Through our services to the Quarry Workers’ Children, all of the Children are very happy and satisfied. These children’s parents thanks to Philanthropists, Grants giving persons, GlobalGiving and our SPHEED-Staff.
