We would like to thank our dedicated supporters who generously donated to help the Captain Planet Foundation receive a permanent fundraising page on the GlobalGiving website. We have enjoyed our partnership thus far and are making much progress in the “Invest in Outdoor Learning Gardens & Health” project.
As you know, the project posted during the Open Challenge was to support the installation of CPF Learning Gardens at West Manor Elementary School and Beecher Hills Elementary School, both Title 1 schools in the Atlanta Public School System. This fundraiser was part of our larger Captain Planet Learning Gardens (CPLG) Program which will have school gardens in over 100 Metro Atlanta-area elementary schools by the end of 2014. West Manor and Beecher Hills are scheduled to receive their garden installations during the Fall 2013; so please stay tuned for our next progress report to see photos of the garden installation days and teachers participating in the CPF Teacher Training Workshop in October.
In related news, we are excited to report that the summer garden maintenance track of the CPLG is successfully operating for its first full summer and our interns are loving every second of it! Check out the links below to learn more about who they are, why they are interested in school and urban gardening, and what drives their passion for involving kids in hands-on learning!
THIS JUST IN, on July 3, 2013, our summer garden interns reported the CPLG’s first donation of fresh produce - 14 pounds of organic onions and summer squash! The lucky recipient you wonder? Cobb County’s MUST Ministries which supplies food to local soup kitchens.
From the entire Captain Planet Foundation team, we thank you again for your dedication to our cause and we look forward to reporting our progress in the next few months.
