Autumn 2019 Mexico Update

Childhood cancer between the ages of 4–15 years represents the second leading cause of mortality in Mexico. Every 4 hours a child with cancer dies in Mexico.

World Child Cancer started pilots in Mexico in 2015 with a focus on community (pairing doctors in Mexico with pediatric oncologists in US for knowledge transfer), family (support services, such as parent groups and transportation assistance), and the child (access to drugs and pain relief.)

Since then we have trained over 300 medical professionals. We have successfully delivered a container of medical supplies to our two project hospitals in Oaxaca and Pachucha.

One of our main areas of support is weekly parent education meetings in Pachuca and a parent support group in Oaxaca. The translation of awareness of childhood cancer videos in indigenous languages has continued with the contribution of many professionals volunteers.
