Camp Shout Out 2016 was better than ever!
We had over 100 participants from all over the world who came together to build a community helped young people who stutter learn to become communicators for life.
Every day each person at camp challenged themselves to become a better communicator. They volunteered to read announcements, to talk over the loud speaker, lead a camp activity, and deliver messages. The campers practiced talking on the phone, ordering from a menu, and telling jokes to friends. They worked hard and took advantage of the opportunity they were given.
Campers also participated in traditional summer camp activities: they swam, rode horses, climbed the rock wall ...and of course, sang ridiculous camp songs. Parents reported that their children came home from camp full of confidence and willingness to speak more at home and at school.
The speech-language pathologists and graduate students participated in state-of-the-art training directed by Kristin Chmela M.A. CCC-SLP, BCS-F, a well known specialist in working with people who stutter. The trainees were able to learn about working with kids who stutter in a way they will remember and use forever.
Camp Shout Out is changing the world for young people who stutter. We can't wait for 2017.
Thank you for being a supporter of this unique and very important program.
