Camp Shout Out 2018 was hot, hot, hot!
Over 120 participants from around the world came together in August, to build a community supporting young people who stutter.
Each day the campers challenged themselves to evolve as communicators. They volunteered to read announcements, to talk over the loud speaker and to deliver messages. They practiced talking on the phone, ordering from a menu, and telling jokes to friends. They worked hard and took advantage of each opportunity available.
Campers also participated in traditional summer camp activities: they swam, rode horses, walked on the high ropes course...and of course, sang ridiculous camp songs. Parents reported that their children came home from camp full of confidence and willingness to speak more at home and at school.
The speech-language pathologists and graduate students participated in state-of-the-art training from well known specialists in fluency disorders. They leared about working with kids who stutter in a way that they were able to take home and immediately use with other clients.
Camp Shout Out is Building Communicators for Life!
