What a fun-filled and meaningful summer it has been for Camp Horizon! This weekend, we kick off our Summer Camp 2016 for children in foster care ages 8-11. Last week, we had an exciting river paddling adventure for our teens. Last month, our teen campers had incredible experiences visiting the Porsche Experience Center Atlanta and the Circus Arts Institute!
For last week’s river adventure, Camp Horizon's teen campers got to paddle rivers for over 100 miles! Partnering with “Paddle Georgia, A Project of Georgia River Network,” each of our teen campers received a scholarship to attend the Paddle GA Youth Program (PGYP) thanks to grants and generous donations of caring individuals like YOU!
During the weeklong paddling trip, they held the ‘three Rs’ of Camp Horizon, Respect, responsibility, and resilience, in high regards. After paddling all day, each evening was spent with self-esteem and reflection activities, journaling, and games like "Wacky Olympics," canoe tug of war and lots of dancing! There was also a lot of animal sightings; including cows, snakes, and turtles!
Our teen leadership events provide our teens with new opportunities for growth and valuable life skills lessons. We are extremely proud of everything they have accomplished! Now, we are off to make final preparations to welcome our youngest participants to our 34th year of Summer Camp!
