Empowering kids with facial differences

By Danielle | Executive Director

Ashlyn
Ashlyn

Every day we support children and youth living with facial differences, providing programs and services help which help empower and encourage.

Today we are pleased to share with you the See Beyond My Face profile of Ashlyn, one of our young community members who has been joining us at Camp Trailblazers for many years:

“I have lived with Alopecia Universalis since the age of five. Alopecia is an auto-immune condition that attacks my hair. Living with no eye lashes, eyebrows or scalp hair makes my appearance unique. Thanks to AboutFace and their Camp Trailblazers program, I am stronger, and more confident living with my facial difference. At camp, we are also able to gain a deeper understanding of the different types and amount of treatments or surgeries all the other campers have had. One of the most interesting things I learned is that I am one of only two people at camp who have never had surgeries. However, I’ve also learned that the amount of surgeries one has had or has not had does not define us. What really matters is our ability to be true to ourselves and to be happy while living our lives.”

Thank you for all your support in providing amazing experiences for kids like Ashlyn!
