Meet Fernando, one of the newest members of the Boy with a Ball scholarship group. He, like many others in the group, is a shining example of a change maker in a socially at-risk community, carving a path of positive leadership and being a true example for those around him every day. Fernando is 21 years old and from the Los Cuadros community in Costa Rica. He came to know the Foundation initially in 2012 through the tutoring program and from there, was drawn further into the organization as he was inspired seeing how something as simple as a school supply campaign could support and encourage those in his community. Fernando had this to say:
"For me, the Foundation represents many things - empowerment, how to grow as a leader, how to help my community succeed, but most of all, it has taught me what it means and why it is important to serve those around me."
Fernando currently is studying administration and plans to continue to become a systems engineer. But his goals don't stop there.
"Personally, I want to always continue to be better. I want to be a good professional, a good human being. In the future I want to be a good father, a good husband, and that my future family has everything that they need to succeed."
It is an honor to be able to be a part of Fernando's journey and it's hard not to get excited about all that he will achieve in the future. Your donation helps make it possible for Fernando to continue to study, support his family and neighbors, and shine brightly in a community where sometimes positive change is hard to see!
