Dear Friends,
Thank you so much for supporting the PATHWAYS scholars. We are happy to report to that three of our scholars have either graduated from medical school in the last month (Catherine and Marilyn) or will be graduating soon (Brian). In addition we recently selected 8 new PATHWAYS scholars, four boys and four girls. Below is an update from Brian, our senior scholar and soon to be alumnus, and an impression from one of our new scholars, Lucky.
Brian- senior scholar
Greetings from Kenya. I hope you are doing well. Here in school, I am doing well. I have finished all the major rotations now remaining with a few minor one each taking two weeks. I'm happy because it is not as busy as it was in Medicine, hence I get enough time to revise for the final examinations. I am looking forward to graduating and beginning my career. Nevertheless, I assure you that I stand fast on every value and principle that PATHWAYS is built on. We the current scholars agreed in one accord that we will stand by and assist PATHWAYS and the new scholars.
As the scholars exiting this year, we promised that we will work together to set a good example and join the Alumni who have set us a good example. PATHWAYS has come a long way and we'd love to see it grow into its full potential. We love PATHWAYS. Personally, it's my second family. Our interests are for the betterment of this great organization.
Lucky- new scholar
I am so delighted and thankful for the chance to join such a great organisation. I now have such a great and wonderful family. Great parents, brothers and sisters I can rely on. When all seemed lost, I had hope and I have a family now. We just had our orientation at Savelberg Retreat Centre. The welcoming into the organisation, fun and activities will ever hold weight in my mind. I have a peer mentor now. One great Brian. I like him so much. I see it in him that he is ready to help and am more fascinated for this grand opportunity.
The alumni scholars really did set the pace with examples and mood right. The effect of pathways in their lives is vivid. Alphonce clarified our expectations and offered guidance on how to balance life as a pathways scholar and university student. I learnt a lot from him. I will be mentoring students back at home over the December holiday and will keep you informed.
We are extremely grateful for your continued support in this program to develop future leaders through education and leading community development projects.
Sincerely,
Angie Gust
