Introduction
The project to establish two community hubs in Busia and Kisumu aims to create inclusive, accessible spaces where youth, women, and the wider community can access education, vocational skills, innovation labs, and empowerment programs. These hubs will provide safe environments that foster learning, creativity, and sustainable livelihoods.
Vision and Objectives
To equip youth and women with practical skills in entrepreneurship, digital literacy, and vocational training.
To provide a central space for community engagement, mentorship, and innovation.
To create pathways to economic empowerment and reduce vulnerability among marginalized groups.
Current Progress
Although construction has not yet begun, significant groundwork has been laid to ensure the project’s success:
Resource Mobilization: Ongoing efforts to raise funds and mobilize resources for construction and equipment.
Awareness Creation: Community sensitization and engagement forums have been initiated in both Busia and Kisumu to inform and involve local stakeholders.
Partnership Development: Active discussions with potential partners — including NGOs, private sector actors, and government representatives — to explore areas of collaboration and support.
Encouragement from Stakeholders: Local leaders and community members have expressed enthusiasm and willingness to engage in the project once resources are secured.
Challenges
Funding constraints have delayed the start of construction.
Limited access to technical and material resources.
Dependence on partnerships to strengthen capacity and ensure sustainability.
Next Steps
Expand fundraising campaigns to secure the necessary capital.
Formalize partnerships with local and international stakeholders.
Conduct detailed feasibility studies and site preparations once resources are available.
Roll out a pilot program (e.g., skills training or mentorship) to keep communities engaged before construction begins.
Conclusion
While the hubs in Busia and Kisumu are still in the resource mobilization and awareness stage, the foundations for future success are being laid through partnerships, community engagement, and advocacy. With sustained support and collaboration, these hubs will soon evolve into centers of learning, innovation, and empowerment, transforming lives and communities for generations.
