Dear supporters,
There is something incredibly exciting happening in Livingstone… what was once a vision on paper is now becoming a real, physical space for young people to learn, connect, grow, and thrive.
Thanks to your support, construction of the Livingstone Youth Community Centre has continued to move forward steadily, and we are thrilled to share that the project is now entering its final phase.
What’s been happening on site?
Since our last update, huge progress has been made across construction, utilities, and interior finishing.
Walls up, spaces defined
The superstructure has advanced significantly, and all internal and external wall construction has now been completed. As the final wall finishing works continue, the different areas of the centre are really starting to come to life.
Rooms are no longer outlines on a plan — they are becoming welcoming spaces where future activities, learning sessions, and community moments will happen.
Floors, windows… and a building that feels real
Floor screeding and tiling have progressed beautifully, creating durable and attractive spaces throughout the centre.
Door and window frames have also been installed, marking another exciting milestone and bringing the building one step closer to completion.
Behind the scenes: bringing the building to life
A lot of progress has happened behind the walls too.
The first and second phases of plumbing and electrical works have now been completed, including:
• Internal pipework installation
• Electrical conduits and switch infrastructure
• Toilets, wash basins, taps, and water storage systems
• Light fittings, sockets, and switches
The final touches are underway
One of our favourite updates to share: the centre is starting to feel like a place people will actually use.
Tiling in the ablution blocks and kitchen areas is nearing completion, and furnishings have started being installed, including desks, chairs, cabinets, and other essential items that will transform the space into a functional and welcoming environment.
Where are we now?
The project is officially in its final phase.
Major construction, plumbing, electrical, and finishing works have now been substantially completed. The remaining work focuses on:
Final inspections
Minor corrections and quality checks
Final preparations for handover and close-out
Why this matters
Every stage completed brings us closer to opening the doors of a centre designed to create opportunities for young people in Livingstone.
Soon, this building will become a place where education, connection, creativity, and community can flourish — and that future is only possible because of supporters like you.
Thank you for being part of this journey and helping turn a dream into a space that will serve generations of young people to come.
We can’t wait to share the next update with you.
With gratitude,
The African Impact Foundation Team
