Your support gives children a voice

Dear friends,

Thanks to your first donations (a total of $230.71 so far), we were able to fund specialized therapy sessions for two refugee children in Bucharest—a boy and a girl—both facing developmental and emotional challenges after displacement. Your support covered speech therapy, psychological counseling, and sessions with parents, ensuring that progress continues at home and not only during clinical hours.

One story we want to share is about Maksym, a young Ukrainian boy who has been attending speech therapy with JRS Romania since he was 3 years old. When his family first arrived in September last year, a psychiatrist diagnosed him with a speech delay and recommended Ukrainian-speaking specialists, as he could only progress in his native language. At that time, Maksym could say only two or three unclear words. His mother recalls: “That was his entire vocabulary.” Now, at 4 years old, after months of patient work, Maksym speaks in full sentences like other children his age. The focus now is on refining pronunciation, but the progress is already remarkable.

Alongside speech therapy, both children benefited from psychological support, including sessions with their parents. These meetings help families learn how to continue exercises at home and how to respond in stressful moments, so that children’s progress is consistent and sustainable. This holistic approach ensures that the gains made in therapy rooms translate into everyday life.

We are deeply grateful for your trust and generosity. You have given Maksym and others like him the gift of communication, confidence, and the chance to thrive in a safe environment. We will continue to share their journeys every three months so you can see the impact of your kindness.
